Letter from the Editor
Dear Subscriber,
What a month it has been!
We have seen the FinCen leak which some have compared to the Panama Papers- it's going to be interesting to see how this develops. We have also seen the landmark enforcement against Westpac for facilitating payments involved in child abuse and Danske Bank's acknowledgement that their compliance culture needs to be fixed. These are just a few "in the news" stories, but are signs that our compliance controls need to change, and this starts with moulding and influencing the right behaviours. As a community at RAW Compliance we hope to achieve this and more together!

The 3 Lines of Implied Defense The 3LOD model had been widely adopted by business organizations around the world, assisting them in structuring their risk management functions, roles, and responsibilities. However, whilst the models name drew images of a coordinated and collaborative approach across the 3LOD, working together to identify and mitigate risks, in practice it began to fail. |

We at RAW Compliance have read many bad books but have gotten better at spotting the ones that will change our brains for the better. That is due in no small part to the wealth of recommendations and reviews across the internet. Here at RAW Compliance, we wanted to invest our own intel into the book recommendation pot and provide our members and followers with some titles that are inspiring us and changing our lives. Most importantly we will also be asking you, our members, to contribute by introducing a member highlight series! We are really excited to get to know you and to learn more from each of you! |

The Lean Startup By Eric Ries I have read a number of entrepreneur books over the years, with many of them following the same pattern- a successful entrepreneur discussing how they struggled and faced challenges in the beginning, and then with some luck, a bit of careful thinking, and a strategy, they were able to push through and create a story of success.
This is exactly what I thought when I was recommended ‘The Lean Startup’- an entrepreneur book following the classic story line and not really adding value to me. I could not have been more wrong. |

The 4-Hour Work Week By Timothy Ferriss
'The 4-Hour Work Week' is a fantastic book written by Timothy Ferriss. It's a resource, a guide and an inspiration to many.
It is the bible for small business owners, as it captures the perfect balance between theory and practicality and the concepts are revolutionary and intriguing, challenging the norms of the world we live in.
If you seek to break away from the straps of life, and leave the 9-5 work life, then this is the book for you! |
